Naval Air Station - Sigonella
U.S. Naval Air Station Sigonella is located in eastern Sicily, south of Mt. Etna and a few miles inland from the eastern coast of the island. Its primary mission is to provide consolidated operational, command and control, administrative, logistical and advanced logistical support to U.S. and other NATO forces. The Augusta Bay Port Facility provides fuel, and supplies to 6th Fleet combat and logistics support ships.
While Sigonella is a Navy base, active duty, as well as reserve personnel, from all services are represented there, including Marines, Army, and Air Force, with their families. In addition to hospital and school personnel, there is the added population of DOD civilians, non-appropriated fund employees and contractors, both American as well as Italian.
NAS Sigonella is divided into two bases, NAS I and NAS II. Most operational work is performed at NAS II. NAS I is the home of the major shopping facilities; the DeCA Commissary, the Navy Exchange Retail Store (NEX) and mini-mall, among others. The housing and school are also located on NAS I.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES
The Morale, Welfare and Recreation complex includes a multiplex cinema, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a 10-lane bowling center and a video arcade among many other things.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Sigonella Center, offers undergraduate and graduate degree courses, while University of Maryland College Europe offers associate and bachelor's degrees in 16 majors and 18 minors.
The Stephen Decatur School is for students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12, with a student population of 1000 and approximately 100 fully qualified staff members.
The U.S. Naval Hospital, Sigonella, provides readily available obstetrics/gynecology and orthopedic care. Medical facilities are also available on NAS II at the flight line clinic for active duty personnel and for occupational health care needs. Medical services there are limited to outpatient care such as sick call, physical examinations, aviation medicine and limited emergency services on both a walk-in and appointment basis.
Sigonella teens have their own place to hang out with movies, video games, music, Internet access, a basketball court, snack bar and more all at the Teen Center, and the Youth Activities Center offers a wide variety of programs and events for kids ages 6-12 years.
Fleet & Family Support Center
Fleet and Family Support Center has the goal of keeping healthy individuals and families strong with the Naval commands in Sigonella.
A recently constructed chapel has improved worship opportunities for Sigonella personnel.
The dining facility-club offers patrons many lunchtime and after-work entertainment options.
The Community Bank offers stateside-like banking for Navy personnel. Its ATMs are located at the bank and at the exchange retail store. Navy Federal Credit Union also has a branch and ATMs. Both offer a wide range of services.
All accompanied military personnel are currently being assigned to government housing upon arrival. Most government housing is contractual, comprising of Mineo and Marinai Housing areas.
The Navy Lodge is located on NAS I and is within walking distance of the Navy Exchange/Commissary, DoDDS School, Base Indoctrination classroom, Housing Office, MWR Complex as well as many other facilities. The Navy Lodge does not accept pets.
The Navy Exchange/DECA commissary and food court has a bookstore, video rental, mini-mart, optical shop, photo developing, barber/beauty shops and laundry/dry cleaning.
The NAS Sigonella Library contains approximately 25,000 books in addition to its periodical and microform collections.
