USAG BADEN-WÜRTTENBERG
The USAG Baden-Württemberg consists of the military communities of Heidelberg and Mannheim as well as USAG Kaiserslautern.
The former USAG Heidelberg and USAG Mannheim have been rolled into the USAG Baden-Württemberg in anticipation of their impending closure. Both the Heidelberg and Mannheim military communities are scheduled to be closed down by 2015.
Most, if not all, facilities in the communities will be relocating or closing in the upcoming 4 years, ending a 65+ year long US military presence in the cities.

Heidelberg, long the headquarters city of US Army Europe (USAREUR), will lose that function under current transition plans. The headquarters of USAREUR and V Corps are to move to Wiesbaden. According to a USAREUR three-phase-transformation plan the move is scheduled to take place between 2011 and 2015. Most, if not all, facilities in the community will probably be relocating or closing in the upcoming 4 years, ending a 65+ year long US military presence in the city. The community includes installations in Heidelberg, Schwetzingen and Germersheim.
Heidelberg, one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, is the largest German city never to have been bombed during World War II. The city is known for its celebrated university and numerous physicians and humanists. The landscape offers picturesque beauty rivaling any in Europe, as well as bustling, modern cities with famous historical buildings, excellent cuisine, outstanding wines and friendly hospitality.
Facilities and Services
Sports and Recreation
The Heidelberg Golf Club in the beautiful Oftersheim Forest is an 18-hole championship course that ranks with the very best in Germany, and membership rates are reasonable. Fitness centers and gymnasiums have well-trained staff, convenient hours of operation, locker rooms and a full array of fitness equipment. The Rod and Gun Club provides excellent hunting and fishing opportunities, as well as bargain resale activities. Outdoor Recreation offers economical ski trips and packages to ski resorts in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France and the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in southern Bavaria. The modern 32-lane Strike Zone Bowling Center, combined with the Family Entertainment Center, offers multiple-lane facilities, pro shops, snack bars, game rooms and conference rooms.
Clubs
The Village Pavilion at PHV offers fine dining, an assortment of snacks, live entertainment, excellent brunches, karaoke bars, wide-screen televisions, unit and group nights, plus many other programs and activities. Legends at PHV, the Recovery Room at Nachrichten and Slapshots at Patton offer fine dining, an assortment of snacks, live entertainment, excellent brunches, karaoke bars, wide-screen televisions, unit and group nights, plus many other programs and activities.
Health Services
The Heidelberg Health Center on Nachrichten Kaserne, offers same day primary care services such as a Family Practice Clinic, optometry, and outpatient appointments for health promotion, disease prevention, and health maintenance. It also has a network of German health care providers, to which it confidently refers patients. Heidelberg has two dental clinics, one at the Health Center and one on Patrick Henry Village. Schools
The Heidelberg community has two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Enrollment is free for command-sponsored children of service members and DoD civilians. Other categories of students may attend on a space-available, tuition-paying basis.
Community Services
The Army Community Service (ACS) center offers various programs and services for soldiers, civilians and family members; parent education classes, financial maintenance classes, relocation information and support, mobilization and deployment support, employment services, Army Emergency Relief (AER) and volunteer programs. Child Development Services provides full service, center-based child care, the Family Child Care (FCC) program, the School Age Services (SAS) program and respite child care for service members in pay grade E-4 and below. Youth Services operates a sports and fitness program for organized seasonal sports. Volunteers are an integral part of every community. Volunteer experience offers great potential for self-fulfillment and may also be reflected on resumes for future job employment.
Chapels
The Chapels at MTV, PHV and the Health Center offer service and religious education in numerous denominations. Your Chapel staff can provide information about them. There is a wide range of Bible study groups, classes and retreats offered by the program.
Scouting
There are active scouting programs for both boys and girls. They advertise and recruit members through the schools, libraries, youth activity centers, media and various other institutions.
Better Opportunities for Single Servicemembers (BOSS)
This program is designed to bring single members' quality of life in line with their married counterparts. Billets afford them more living space so they may decorate to their own tastes and include amenities such as floor kitchenettes, private facilities, fitness equipment and government furnishings. It also involves single personnel in recreational travel and community help programs.
Shopping
The installation Shopping Center on Czernyring boasts retail stores, service stations, shoppettes, pick-up points, military clothing sales stores, video stores, Class Six beverage shops, food courts, laundromats, alterations shops, movie theaters and barber and beauty shops. The Commissary, one of the best and largest in Europe, is located adjacent to Patrick Henry Village. It has a wide selection of foods and other goods that you would expect in a commissary, plus a bakery, a pasta stand, and a cafe for in-house eating. There are also franchised restaurants such as Burger King and Popeye's Chicken.
Libraries
The Heidelberg community has two libraries. The PHV Library, one of the few fully automated libraries in USAREUR, has fiction and nonfiction book selections, reference materials, travel guides, videos, educational resources, childrenÕs books, magazines and computers with internet access. The European Regional Library is oriented towards the adult looking for expanded knowledge. Most of the books here are geared towards educational reading, with little leisure reading material.

The Guesthouse offers affordable and comfortable alternatives to local hotels and pensions.
Army Post Office (APO)
The Army Post Office (APO) is a full-service facility, providing parcel service and transport of all classes of mail from priority to express. It also transports mail for free from APO to APO when "MPS" is written in the upper right corner of envelopes and packages.
Banking
The Community Banks and the Service Credit Union offer full service banking. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) offer 24-hour service for deposits and withdrawals from both checking and savings accounts.
Auto Craft Shop
The Auto Craft Shop, with strip yard, offers assistance in performing automotive maintenance and repair. Equipment, tools and trained mechanics make everything, from charging a battery to major overhauls, possible at great cost savings.
Youth Services
Heidelberg YS's unique School of the Arts emphasizes programs in music, dance, visual arts and theater. Sports programs, student services and various leisure and recreational activities for youth ages 6-19 are available.
Music and Theater
The Roadside Theater offers live productions, acting classes, a summer theater workshop for youth, music lessons, costume rentals and technical assistance with productions.
American Forces Network
Much of AFN's TV and audio broadcasting is the same command-wide. However, it also breaks away throughout the day so that viewers and listeners can learn what's going on in their local area. You can see see the video channel with Heidelberg spots on channel 15.

Though it has a long history as a USAREUR base, Mannheim is officially a non-enduring facility and will undergo massive changes over the next four years as it closes down. USAG Mannheim has been rolled into USAG Baden-Wrttemberg. The Command is dedicated to maintaining a high level of service to soldiers and their family members during the course of the drawdown.

The United States Army health clinic at BFV is an outpatient facility providing high quality primary and limited specialty health care. Serious cases are referred to local host nation hospitals or the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. The BFV Dental Clinic provides general dentistry and specialty treatment to authorized individuals. Veterinary Services include animal disease prevention and control, issuance of health certificates and vaccinations.
Schools
Mannheim has an elementary school and high school. Middle school students are bussed to Heidelberg.

The military shopping complex is within walking distance of Sullivan, Funari and Taylor Barracks and the Benjamin Franklin Village housing area, in the Mannheim suburb of Kaefertal. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has a retail store, service station, shoppette, pick-up point, military clothing sales, video store, Class Six beverage shop, food court, laundromat, alterations shop, movie theater and barber and beauty shops. The first AAFES-operated Vision Center in Europe is located on Coleman Barracks, and a modern, well-stocked commissary sells U.S. brand-name products and many European specialties. There are also franchised restaurants such as Burger King and Popeye's Chicken.
