With autumn's fogs drifting in and the temperatures dropping, the foliage along the Tauber River in Rothenburg is changing to gold and red as the first frosts are already appearing. That means, Winter - and Christmas - are not far away.
With some 30,000 individual items store-wide from which to choose, ranging from small to giant pyramids, glass and metal bulb decorations, birds and flowers, intricately hand-carved figures, including rare collectors' items the on-line Shopping opportunities go a long way towards saving time, travel and money.
As delightful and nostalgic as the walled, medieval city of Rothenburg is, especially in conjunction with shopping at Käthe Wohlfahrt's Weihnachtsmarkt, ("the Mother of All Christmas Stores",) you need not travel to Germany to obtain your Christmas decorations and gifts for 2007.
Now celebrating its fourth year, Wohlfahrt's On-line Shop awaits you, from now until December 31st, 2007. And even last-minute seasonal orders can be accepted until December 18th. This is extremely convenient.
Also new, in addition to the thousands of items in the current 2007 assortment, is a Special Bonus program. Not only does the Bonus program let you obtain one-of-a-kind, Wohlfahrt-exclusive creations at rock-bottom prices, but provides money-saving bonuses as well. These bonus savings premiums can also be redeemed at various Wohlfahrt stores and Christmas market stands in Germany.
Among five different specialty gift item areas are the Rothenburg-Workshop-Studios' Holzknackl® Nutcrackers, Holzknoddl® "Smoking men," Glass- and Pewter items, and Rothenburger Butzl® carved wooden figurines. The latter are easily identified by their round features, faces and tummies.
New this year are rotating music boxes with shepherd motifs incorporating Swiss-made works as well as made-to-measure candles.
Whether it's rustic flavor or historical veracity, exquisite sophistication or the idealized delight of Christmases past, Käthe Wohlfahrt brings you its own very special World of Christmas. Best of all, it's only a mouse-click away!
So, "Click for St Nick" and prepare for Christmas 2007 on-line, right now! German Christmas Museum Celebrates its 7th Year
Headquartered above the Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Market, the German Christmas Museum has just completed its seventh year of operations. More than 150,000 guests from around the world have passed through 12 centuries of German Christmases documented and preserved in its six exhibition halls to date.
The tour shows the very humble, symbolic, thoroughly religious beginnings of Christian practices in the 9th Century and documents the evolution of the celebration through medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and modern times. Aspects of earlier practices used by non-Christian faiths found throughout the Roman Empire and later incorporated into Christmas celebration are also explained.
The parallel paths of Saint Nikolaus and the Weihnachtsmann or Father Christmas and the development of Santa Claus can likewise be traced as well as the forms of gift-giving and rewards for good behavior.
